A 10-day workshop to train third-year students in effective communication was inaugurated by the Training and Placement Division of the Bishop Heber College on Wednesday.
Held in collaboration with BBC India, the programme titled “Training for Effective Communication – 2015” (TEC - ’15) is aimed at equipping students with the required skills to communicate in a professional atmosphere.
In his keynote address, Isaac Raghunath, General Manager, BBC India, said that students facing the final year of college studies should focus not just on academics, but also on getting placed in life.
“Unless you have the key to open the job opportunities, you cannot put to use all that you have learned in college,” he said. “We are going to make you talk, and bring out your hidden talent through this programme,” he added.
The News in Words videos from BBC’s programmes are used over 60 hours to train students in learning the English language in an innovative manner.
The teaching uses an interactive methodology, with students being split into groups to encourage creative thinking.
Last year, the TEC workshop helped 240 students of Bishop Heber College to get job placements.
This year, as an added incentive, cash prizes are being given to the best study groups.
College principal Dr. D. Paul Dhayabaran advised the pupil to utilise the workshop’s lessons “to make your mark in a highly competitive world.”
