The debt-ridden state has decided to bring its finances under check and has announced austerity measures to ensure that spending by government departments does not exceed the Budgeted allocation.

* The instructions said that their must be a balance between the income and expenditure of all departments and spending should remain within Budgeted limits.

* Ministers and officers holding charge of more than one office will be permitted to use vehicles of only one department.

* All departments must not resort to wasteful tendencies and should ensure prudence in spending on electricity and telephone.

* Except for the chief secretary, deputy commissioners, divisional commissioners and SSPs, other officers would not be paid for telephone, electricity, furniture and other expenditures from state exchequer for camp offices operating at their residences.
