State students sweep top ranks in COMEDK UGET

In a departure from the usual, students from the State, particularly Bengaluru, swept the top spots in the Undergraduate Entrance Test (UGET) conducted by the Consortium of Medical, Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka (COMEDK). The UGET results were announced here on Monday.

Toppers in the Common Entrance Test managed to lay claim on the top 10 ranks in the UGET as well, with Bengaluru students occupying the top slots in both medical and engineering.

Even the consortium was quick to note the trend. In its release, the COMEDK stated that in medical/dental, as many as 27,395 candidates (47 per cent) have become eligible to participate in the seat selection process, set to be held on June 29. Of these, 7,450 (27 per cent) are from Karnataka and 2,747 (10 per cent) are from Bengaluru.

Similarly, in engineering, the highest marks secured by a student are 167 out of 180, who is from Bengaluru. Of the first 10 rank holders, seven are from Karnataka; likewise, of the first 100 ranks, 76 are from the State, while of the first 1,000 ranks, 587 are from Karnataka.

Out of 21,300 Karnataka candidates who have become eligible to participate in the engineering seat selection process, as many as 9,600 (45 per cent) are from Bengaluru Urban District.

"I am not sure about which institute I will finally choose. I will be more sure once the results of the AIPMT and AIMS entrance test are out. I feel proud of myself because I was able to rank first in both CET and COMED-K," she said. "There are no doctors in my family, and I hope to be the first,” she added.

"The preparation for COMED-K and CET was common. I used the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) (11th and 12th) textbooks and timed myself on any past papers which helped me in coping with the timings in the COMED-K math section ,which was lengthy." She is waiting for her IIT results and has been offered a seat in the Indian Institute of Science Bengaluru, which is her back up option.
