The former Chief Minister and BJP national vice-president B.S. Yeddyurappa on Sunday hit out at the State government for its ‘vindictive politics’ by expressing its reported plans to reopen cases in Ballari.

“When the BJP questioned the government’s decision to withdraw cases related to communal violence, it ‘threatens’ to reopen cases. The government must stop such an approach immediately,” he charged.

Instead of running the government by suppressing the voices of the opposition, the government must work to win over the people, he told presspersons here on Sunday.

Despite resistance from the State police, the government went ahead with its decision to withdraw cases related to communal violence and this shook the morale of the police force, he claimed.

“Strangely, a case had been booked against the former BJP MLA Araga Jnanendra for his fight in the Nandita murder case at Thirthahalli,” Mr. Yeddyurappa said.

Taking potshots at the Congress government’s functioning, Mr. Yeddyurappa said that the administration in the State had collapsed and the government failed to improve governance even after two years in power.

“Some senior police officers had been caught in lottery scam and an alleged supporter of Minister Shivaraj Tangadgi is facing murder charges. The Minister’s supporters had allegedly torched a house during the gram panchayat elections. But, the government had remained,” he alleged.

Staring at ‘bankruptcy’

Mr. Yeddyurappa claimed that the government seemed to be staring at bankruptcy if the schemes announced by it were an indication.

“Last year, Rs 16,000 crore was set aside for the Department of Social Welfare but Rs 8,500 crore was spent; Rs 10,000 crore was set aside for Water Resources Department but Rs 5,361 crore was spent; Rs 1,000 crore was earmarked for the Hyderabad-Karnataka region but only Rs 13.66 crore was spent. These facts accessed from the statistics released by the Chief Minister, expose the State’s financial position,” he said.

Taking a dig at Mr. Siddaramaiah for not accompanying Prime Minister Narendra Modi to China despite an invitation, he asked, “How many industries had been brought to the State under your tenure? Stop giving rash statements.”

‘Shift offices to

Suvarna Soudha’

Mr. Yeddyurappa suggested that the government should hold the entire monsoon session at Belagavi instead of both Bengaluru and Belagavi.

He also suggested shifting some offices from Bengaluru to Suvarna Soudha at Belagavi.
