BENGALURU: A major fire broke out in a confectionery manufacturing unit near Eshwara Temple in Netaju Nagar in K.P. Agrahara off Magadi Road on Sunday evening. It took more than three hours for the fire force personnel to douse the blaze and the two-storey was completely damaged. Fire department officials said that they were alerted at 5.51 pm and three fire tenders were rushed to the spot first. “The unit is located in a narrow road and fire tenders could not get close to the building, making it difficult to put off the fire. Finally, several hoses were joined to reach to the building and water was pumped. The fire was completely doused only around 9 pm. In all, 10 fire tenders were pressed into service,” an official said.
“The exact reason for the fire is not yet known. It is suspected that leakage of LPG from one of the cylinders in the building led to the fire. Six cylinders were found inside the factory. Fortunately, no casualties were reported as the unit was closed as it was a Sunday. Goods worth several lakhs of rupees have been gutted and the building is badly damaged in the fire,” the official said.
The fire fighters asked the residents staying around the building to move out till the operation got over, as a precautionary measure. It is said that the building was owned by Rajan. Further investigations are on.
