4-hour surgery rids 19-year-old girl of arthritic pain
INDORE: For two years, Komal Tomar, 19, suffered excruciating pain in her right wrist. Two weeks ago, Indore doctors performed a four-hour marathon surgery to end her ordeal.
Komal Tomar, resident of Khudel village near Indore, suffered from restricted blood supply in lunate bone of her right wrist. Her family members consulted a physiotherapist, took several medicines, but to no avail.

Finally, her family took her to Index Medical College where after initial investigation, a surgery was suggested to relieve her of the pain and disease.
Surgeon Dr Shailesh Gupta said, “This is a rare disease, which needs to be treated on time or it causes arthritis. We immediately planned a surgery to resume blood supply to the wrist by grafting veins. In medical terms, it is known as vascularised bone grafting.”
During the surgery, Komal was conscious and was relieved of pain. Anaesthetist, Dr Avanindra Nayar said, “Patient can eat right after surgery. Recovery is quick in such cases. Due to the problem, the girl was also not getting married.”
