A year back, over 100 students from different engineering colleges in the city were roped in to develop mobile apps for the Kumbh mela.

NASHIK: A year back, over 100 students from different engineering colleges in the city were roped in to develop mobile apps for the Kumbh mela. KumbhThon started by city-based Sandip Foundation with the help of Massachusetts Institute of Technology aims to streamline the huge event and help in tracking disease outbreak, people and crowd mapping.
Mahesh Gujrathi, from KumbhThon said that a number of apps have been developed to that will in finding the possible routes, medical aid available and to track the number of visitors through mobile towers.

EpiMetrics, Meditracker, Kumbh Sahayak are some of the major applications that have been developed.
“Kumbh Sahayak is the official App that is being used by the civic body and district administration officials. It provides information about routes, transport, timings and other emergency services available even when the mobile services are down,” he said. It will also include helpline numbers, he added.
Other app is EpiMetrics, a pandemic/epidemic outbreak monitoring system. It detects any rapidly spreading disease in a particular area and plots the relevant data on Google maps on real-time basis. Meditracker is another Android application designed for instant medical help when required. Medical stores and hospitals in the vicinity can be found on the app.“An app called Annadan has been created to establish network among people who may want to donate food to the needy during the Kumbh,” said Gujrathi.
Milaap is another app for reporting lost or found in Kumbh Mela. It is designed to be used by Kumbh Mela volunteers who can guide the pilgrims.
