Punjab Government is committed to strengthen and expand Dairy Training & Skill Development Facilities in the State so that the people do not have to travel long distances to get the requisite training & skill development course. Presently 8 Dairy Training & Extension Centers are imparting different types of trainings to about 10,000 trainees every year and foundation stone of 9th center at Sangrur has been laid down this week.
Gulzar Singh Ranike, Dairy Development Minister said that with the establishment of a new Dairy Training & Extension Center at Sangrur a long pending demand of the people of the area has been met. In a Press communiqué he asked the people to prepare themselves to make best use of the proposed facility. He said that dairy farming has occupied a very vital place in the context of diversification of agriculture as it has the potential to offer a viable alternative. He proudly stated that Punjab is contributing 8% share of milk to the total milk produced in the Country and it has the highest per capita availability of milk of 971 grams. He declared that the State Government was making all out efforts to make white revolution a truth in the State.
Inderjeet Singh, Director, said that Dairy farming has come as a natural but viable alternative. According to him a revolution of commercial dairy farming is taking place in the State. The Govt. is taking every possible step to make it a success. Skill development is catching up and has become a watchword all around but in Punjab Dairy Development Department had been running a variety of programmes of training and skill development for dairy farmers throughout the State. This programme was not only limited to the Dairy Training & Extension Centers but the Department has also been reaching out to the people by organizing camps in the villages.
