Scavaloni Pesaro’s long unbeaten run ended with Champions League defeat to fellow Italians Volley Bergamo at the Adriatic Arena in Luxemborg.
Bergamo won 3-1 (25-23 21-25 25-22 25-23) in front of a sold-out crowd of 3,500 to inflict Scavaloni's first defeat since March 30 last year.
Bergamo captain Eleonora Lo Bianco starred for the victors, who took a tense first set before Scacaloni drew level. Bergamo then claimed the next two sets to achieve a famous victory.
"We were nervous and couldn't play as we always do," said Pesaro captain Martina Guiggi. "This defeat could also be useful because it makes us think about our own mistakes."
In the night's other match, Eczacubasi Zentiva of Turkey beat Polish side Fakro Muszynianka 3-1 (25-23 24-26 28-26 25-20)
Mirka Francia top-scored for Eczacubasi with 32 points, while Sylwia Pycia weighed in with 16 points for the defeated Poles.
