SRINAGAR, June 5:Police in North Kashmir’s Handwara area detained four youth for telecom attacks while around 10 people have been arrested for weapon snatching in South Kashmir district of Pulwama. In the meantime, the threat posters of unknown militant outfit surfaced in Sopore today.
A police official said that police have detained four men for two attacks on telecommunication towers in Handwara area of Kupwara district today. They are being questioned by police and police sources said that they are associates of Hizbul Mujahideen militant.
The attack in the towers in Handwara took place on May 30. However, no damage was done.
In the meantime, police arrested 10 suspected militants in two cases of weapon snatching in Pulwama district, however, no snatched weapon was recovered so far.
Police sources said that some of these men were arrested in case of weapon snatching of a local BJP leader from his Prachu Pulwama residence last month. The driver of the BJP leader who fled away with the weapon was already arrested by police.
Police also arrested several Over Ground Workers of militants for snatching weapons from the police guards at Sub-District Hospital in Pulwama.
And after telecom threat posters of Lashkar-e-Islam (LeI) last month, the posters carrying stamps of unknown militant outfit, Tehreek-e-Taliban Jammu and Kashmir appeared in Batapora, Arampora and Bus Stand areas of Sopore town this morning.
The posters warned action against the petrol-pump owners who provide fuel to police and security forces. The people who rent out or accommodate non-locals in their houses have also been threatened.
The posters threaten action on the pattern of attacks on telecommunication employees and mobile towers.
The posters also warned people indulging in un-Islamic acts like drugs and liquor. The gamblers have also been threatened.
The Deputy Inspector General (DIG) North Kashmir, Gareeb Dass said that the police have taken serious note of the posters. “We are examining the posters and we have taken it very seriously given the situation which emerged after the surfacing of Lashkar-e-Islam posters. It is to be seen whether it is the handiwork of terrorists or miscreants.”
In the meantime, two youth barged into the office of the ACN Cable network and threatened them. The owners immediately closed its operations.
