UNA, JUNE 5

President of state Youth Congress Vikramaditya Singh today said the Compulsory Land Acquisition Act, as proposed by the Narendra Modi-led NDA Government, was a tool to strangulate the agriculturists and orchardists, who were the backbone of the country.

He was addressing mediapersons at the Circuit House here before leading a procession from Jhalera chowk to Una district headquarters to oppose the Act.

Vikramaditya said Youth Congress would continue to oppose the unilateral decision of the UPA Government till they revoked the decision in the interest of farmers.

The decisions taken till date by the Union Government had been pro-rich and anti-poor. The present move was again a step in the same direction, he stated.

Taking a dig at Member Parliament and President of Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) Anurag Thakur, Vikramaditya said a cricket association should be headed by somebody who has played the game at a senior level.

Later, Industries Minister Mukesh Agnihotri, Chintpurni MLA Kuldip Kumar, Haryana Congress President Ashok Tanwar, District Congress President Varinder Dharmani and Pradesh Congress Committee member Satpal Raizada accompanied Vikramaditya in the march from Jhalera to Una. The leaders also presented a memorandum to President Pranab Mukherjee through Deputy Commissioner Abhishek Jain against the Compulsory Land Acquisition Act.
