The death toll from a flash flood caused by heavy rainfall in Khuzdar district’s Sarona area in Pakistan has risen to 14, while another six are still missing.
The 20 victims were travelling in a vehicle which was washed away in the floods caused by torrential rain that started in Balochistan on Wednesday night, reported The Express Tribune.
The deputy commissioner (DC) of Khuzdar, Abdul Waheed Shah, said the victims were all locals who were drowned in “nullah” (hill torrent) in Wadh Sarona.
Shabbir Ahmed, a Balochistan Levies official in Khuzdar, said dozens of homes have been washed away in the flash flood, which hit the villages Kohen Mandru and Golu Goth in the Sarona tehsil.
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has already initiated a relief operation, providing 200 tents and food to the victims. A control room has also been set up with the chief minister monitoring the operations.
