Murdered candidate emerged victorious

Subramani, a candidate who was murdered a few days before the polls, has been elected to the Balla Gram Panchayat in Mulbagal taluk of Kolar district.

The election to the general category seat, for which Subramani was in fray, was not counter-maned as there was no such provision for the same and the polling was held as usual on June 2.

Large number of residents in a meeting following Subramani’s death, decided to get him elected posthumously and they appear to keep their promise.

Subramani polled 552 votes and his nearest rival got 410 votes. Another candidate Anitha secured only 15 votes.

Up to Election Commission

With the selection of a deceased candidate, all eyes were centred now at the State Election Commission.

The result will be intimated to the Election Commission and it will take a decision about the future course of action, sources told The Hindu.

There are two options before the Commission, one declaring reelection to the seat or declaring the person who got second highest vote, the sources said.
