Ludhiana police claim arrested man behind many murders across country

Police claimed the accused has confessed to his involvement in eight murder cases in Ludhiana and Amritsar, though it is suspected that he could have a hand in many more.

Baldev Singh, alias Harbhajan Singh of Mohalla Agwar Gujjran of Jagraon, was arrested in Ludhiana on Thursday for his alleged involvement in a bunch of murders in North India over the past many years.

Police claimed the accused has confessed to his involvement in eight murder cases in Ludhiana and Amritsar, though it is suspected that he could have a hand in many more.

The police claimed the killing spree started in 2000, when he was accused of murdering a couple in in Agra. The next day he hired a taxi from Mathura bus stand and strangled the driver to death. He did the same to another taxi driver near Amriyan the same day, the police claimed. The same year, the accused also murdered an elderly woman in Kot Mangal Singh area and then a relative, Davinder Kaur, and her 17-year-old son Dharminder Singh. His name is associated with the murder of a shopkeeper in Amritsar too.

The Ludhiana police claimed the 42-year-old was behind the murder of a factory owner in 2001 in Goregaon of West Mumbai. They alleged he was also arrested in 2012 for drug peddling in Ludhiana under the name Inder Singh, but was bailed out.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Naveen Singla in press statement said the police team headed by Inspector Kanwarjit Singh and ASI Rajwant Singh arrested the accused on Wednesday following a tip-off. He said the police were in contact with departments in other states and the National Crime Record Bureau (NCRB).
