CONGRATULATIONS TO GEGE CONSTITUENCY SCHOOLS

Sir,

After I had written about the poor performances of the local schools (in the constituency), I was so thrilled to hear that something positive is being done by the area’s legislator. The constituency has  got more than 15 schools, but the level of education is very poor. A number of things contribute to this, including the behaviour of the teachers within the constituency. Some of them fail to respect their profession and time will tell if this situation will improve. We will have to name them and their schools so that they will see that this is serious.

Back to today’s topic, I wish to convey my appreciation to our Member of Parliament, Honourable Mbongiseni Malinga, who gave the schools a sum of E7 000 to uplift the level of education in this constituency.
I heard that the schools will embark on dialogues and debates. It was the first time I had heard of head teachers being called to deliberate on this and discuss as to how they are going to run such competitions, since it is the first of its kind.
 That was wonderful.

One of the requirements of an MP is to listen to their electorates and it is true that the Gege MP has done that. As an MP it is very important for him to be seen contributing to the state of education within his constituency. A number of parliamentarians consider stokvels and buying Cola-Cola drinks for their electorates as a substantial contribution to the development of the constituency but the Gege MP started a very different and important project that needs to be supported. It is my first time to see an MP who listens and implements, I was used to MPs who were big headed and believe that they would do things on their own, until it was too late to rectify the situation.

Once again, thumbs up MP Malinga. I have also heard that he wants to host teachers’ family/ sports day in his constituency in a bid to uplift the morale of educators at Gege. This is wonderful, keep it up sir.

Ronnie Dlamini, GEGE
