Gurpurav celebrated with religious fervor, gaiety

JAMMU, June 3: Parkash Parav of Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib ji, was celebrated with gaiety and religious fervor by the members of the Sikh community in various functions organised across the State today.
District Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (DGPC) Jammu organised a grand function in connection with the Gurpurav at Gurdwara Chhathi Pathshahi Talab Tillo Jammu. The Gurdwara was highly decorated and a large number of Sikh devotees from Jammu and adjoining areas participated. The people started arriving Gurdwara early in the morning for offering prayers. The special prayers were offered by the Sangat on this great occasion. Later, they attended `Shabad- Kirtan’, recited by religious personalities. Special Langar and Chabeel was also arranged for the public.
Ragi Jatha of Bhai Nirmal Singh ji Khalsa, Sri Darbar Sahib Amritsar and local Ragi Jathas of DGPC Jammu recited the Gurvani Path on the occasion. The religious discourse of eminent preacher Bhai Sahib Giani Jaswant Singh Parwana spell bound the Sangat. He threw light on the life and history of the great Guru who put two swords of Miri and Piri as the symbols of spirituality and power and fought against Mughals and also won many battles.
A resolution was also adopted with regard to the long pending demands related to package for PoK refugees of 1947, setting up of Minority Commission, quota to the Sikh community in every field, promotion of Punjabi language, installation of statue of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur at Kunjwani Chowk and naming University Road as Guru Gobind Singh Marg.
SGPB chairman T S Wazir, Divisional Commissioner Jammu as chairman DGPC Jammu and other functionaries of DGPC Jammu including Dalip Singh, Attar Singh, Manjit Singh also attended the function.
Parkash Purab of 6th Guru Hargobind Ji Maharaj was celebrated at Digiana Ashram, Jammu under the supervision of Mahant Manjeet Singh Ji of Shiromani Dera Nangali Sahib, Poonch. While addressing religious gathering Mahant ji appealed the Sikh Sangat to follow the path shown by the great Guru who has done a lot for the people of the country in the field of religious and spiritual upliftment. Thousands of devotees participated in the religious congregation. Ragis and religious preachers threw light on the life and history of great Guru. They said Guru Hargobind Ji lifted two Kirpans namely Meeri and Peeri to end the cruelty and injustice with the people of India and fought many battles for this purpose.
Many leaders of several Sikh organizations of J&K, including National Shiromani Akali Dal, Sikh United Front J&K, Bhai Kanaiya Nishkam Sewa Society, AISSF, Sikh Naujawan Sabha, Sikh Welfare Society also participated and spoke on this occasion.
The Management Committee of Gurdwara Baba Chanda Singh Ji Jain Bazar Jammu and Nirvair Social organization also celebrated the Gurpurav with great religious fervor and enthusiasm, in which an impressive `Kirtan- Darbar’ was organized at Gurudwara Baba Chanda Singh Ji, Jain Bazar, Jammu. The Sangat from surrounding areas of Jammu city reached Gurudwara for listening `Gurbani Path’ . The citizens from all walks of life also attended the Kirtan Darbar. On the occasion free Langar and Chabeel (Cold Water) was arranged for the devotees. Two stalls of Langar and Cold Water (Chabil Water ) were set up for general public. Bhai Vikaramjeet Singh Ji and Jatha Bhai Sahib, S Parveen Singh, Bhai Sukhdev Singh Ji and Dr Tejinder Singh Ji recited the Kirtan and highlighted the life and history of the great Guru.
While speaking on the occasion Sukhbir Singh alleged that the despite the Gazetted Holiday declared by the Government vide Govt Order No:- 680-GAD of 2015 Dated 19.05.2015, the maximum Educational Instituitions /School and other offices remained open with the result the Sangat has not freely celebrated the festival. He demanded that election dates of conducting Election of District Gurudwara Parbandhak Committees be extended immediately as the number of mistakes/ discrepancies were found in the electoral rolls. He also demanded that the name of Kunjwani Chowk be named as Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Chowk. The sangat also demanded punishment to those persons who are responsible for 1984 & 1989 riots.
All the office bearer including Gurmeet Singh, Amarjeet Singh, Surinder Singh Shinda, Gurnam Singh, Dr Tejinder Singh, Jagbir Singh and Jagjeet Singh were also present on the occasion.
In Poonch also, the main Gurdawara Singh Sabha of the city was highly decorated and special prayers were held. A large number of devotees thronged the Gurdawara and offered prayers. Religious persons recited Gurvani Path. Gurdwara at Old Poonch was also highly decorated. Several local organizations participated in the function and arranged free langar for the devotees.
Reports of Gurpurab celebrations have also been received from Nowshera, Akhnoor, Udhampur, Kathua, Batote, R S Pura, Ramgah, Samba and other parts of the State. In Udhampur the function was organised at Gurdwara Singh Sabha Mukherjee Bazar and Guru Teg Bahadur where a large number of devotees participated and offered special prayers.
