PESHAWAR: Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Governor Sardar Mehtab Ahmad Khan urged top graduates of Khyber Medical University and Khyber Girls Medical College to continue with their goals as society has great expectations from them.
The governor, who is also chancellor of all public sector universities in K-P, said this at a reception arranged on the lawns of the Governor House on Wednesday for those students who secured gold medals. KMU Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Hafeezullah, Registrar Dr Fazal Mahmood, KMU deans and faculty members were also present on the occasion.
Parents of the graduates were also invited to the reception.
“After qualifying with distinctions, the duty of these students is to serve the health needs of patients,” Mehtab added.
The governor said the gold medalists must serve humanity with devotion to excel in their careers.
“Students have every right to a professional career which brings material gains, but they should never forget the code of ethics of the medical profession,” he said.
“Their degrees serve as recognition of the knowledge they have attained in both institutions.”
The governor thanked the KMU vice chancellor, KGMC Principal Professor Dr Abid Hussain as well as the faculty and staff of both institutes for their commitment.
He also urged students to strive towards conquering the opportunities provided by KMU and KGMC not only for their own interest, but for society as a whole.
According to Mehtab, there are multiple issues with the health profession and urged the fresh graduates to be ready to face them. He said this was crucial to negate the impact of diseases.
Earlier, the KMU VC presented the welcome address and thanked the governor for acknowledging the efforts of KMU and KGMC.
He pledged that the institutes would continue working with enthusiasm under his leadership.
Later, cash prizes worth Rs10,000 were handed out for each gold medal won by a student. It was a particularly rewarding day for one student named Khushbakht who was handed Rs160,000 for her 16 gold medals. Similarly, Syed Hashim Ali Shah received Rs100,000 for his 10 gold medals.
Nargis Jabeen and Shumaila took home Rs60,000 each for their six gold medals each. Amber Kazmi was given Rs30,000 for her three gold medals.
