TOKYO -- Ajinomoto plans to launch a bread-making business in Indonesia, expecting demand to grow as the middle class expands and tastes Westernize.
The Japanese company will set up a subsidiary capitalized at around 1.7 billion yen ($13.6 million) there in July. This unit will build a plant on the outskirts of Jakarta to produce frozen dough and bread products. These will be sold primarily to bakeries and hotels, with some also sold to the consuming public through supermarkets and other retailers. Sales are expected to begin in August 2016.
