HSLC toppers want to study engg, medicine
Guwahati: Pursuing courses in engineering and medicine seem to be the first choice of rank-holders of the High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) examination, 2015, the results of which were declared on Tuesday. Most of the 36 rank-holders, who shared the top ten slots among themselves, want to study science in Classes XI and XII and join the IITs after clearing the Higher Secondary (HS) examination.
Expressing satisfaction with his results, state topper Ripunjay Kalita, who hails from lower Assam’s Barpeta district, said he did not expect to obtain the first position. “I enjoy scientific experiments. My target is to join an IIT and become an automobile engineer,” said the student who scored 97.83%. Though Ripunjoy does not like politics, he dreams to work for the society by contributing in his own capacity. “I did not have any fixed time for studies,” he said.
Coming second with 97.5%, Mridul Sarmah of Sankardev Jatiya Vidyalaya in Darrang district also wants to join one of the IITs and complete a masters’ degree from there. He thanked god and credited his family and teachers for his outstanding results.
On the other hand, Satabdi Borah of Madhya Jamuguri Government-Aided High School, Sonitpur, who secured a third rank with 97.33%, wants to be a doctor and serve the society. “I never expected to come third. I am very happy with the results. I want to become a doctor so that I can help the needy,” she smiled.
