Tiruchi police book Seeman under sedition charge

Tiruchi police on Saturday registered a case against Naam Thamizhar Iyakkam leader Seeman and 40 others under four sections of the Indian Penal Code, including sedition, charge for the speech he made at a party conference held in the city on May 24.

He has been charged under Sections 124-A (attempting to bring into hatred or contempt or excite or attempting to excite disaffection towards the Government established by law, 143 (unlawful assembly), 153-A (committing acts prejudicial to maintenance of harmony between different groups on grounds of religion, race and others) and 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) of the Indian Penal Code.

Sources said the case had been filed based on a complaint filed by Surender, Sub-Inspector, attached to the Edamalaipatti Pudur police station.
