Indefinite strike by GESCOM contract workers enters second day

The indefinite strike launched by the contract workers employed in the Gulbarga Electricity Supply Company (GESCOM) demanding minimum wages and to end contract system entered second day on Tuesday.

The workers urged the GESCOM for reinstatement of 47 contract workers who were removed from their jobs.

As many as 147 contract workers including - Data entry operator, Security guards, Sweepers and office boy were working with the GESCOM for the last 14 years. Out of which 47 contract workers had been fired from the jobs.

The workers were deprived of minimum wages and coverage under Employees State Insurance (ESI), Provident Fund (PF) and the other welfare measures.
