VARANASI: The Lucknow division of Northern Railways (NR) began 'Level crossing awareness week' on Monday to mark the International Level Crossing Awareness Week. A nukkad natak was organized at Cantonment Railway Station on Monday.
The division would conduct campaign by creating awareness among the people, school children and road users by way of distributing pamphlets and organizing nukkad natak (street act).

"The activities are directed at promoting safety at level crossings. Our sole purpose is to create safety awareness among masses," chief area manager Ravi Prakash Chaturvedi said. The nukkad natak and awareness campaign will also be carried out at Kashi station, Shivpur railway station, railway colonies and circulating areas, he added.
Additional divisional railway manager, Lucknow division, MN Ojha and other railway officials participated in the campaign. Nukkad natak on safety were enacted and pamphlets were distributed to create awareness among the passengers at Cantt railway station.
Railway officials also emphasized on various themes comprising 'life is precious', 'run for life, not for death', 'keen observation will save one's life at level and unmanned crossings'.
The general public, road users as well as passengers were also sensitized on adhering to Section 161 of the Railway Act 1989 and Section 131 of the Motor Vehicle Act 1989 about exercising caution while crossing unmanned level crossings. Those found violating the law or rules will be booked and might even get a possible jail term of 3 years.
