Those who welcome it

June 02, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:55 am IST - MYSURU:

Welcoming the Cabinet decision to drop cases against the KFD and the PFI, the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) said it was a deliberate attempt by the government to project progressive organisations as communal outfits. SDPI leader in Mysuru, Amjad, recalled that a jail bharo programme was held on July 9, 2009, to protest the arrest of innocent people in connection with communal riots in which three people had died. Ashraf K. Agnady, an advocate appearing on behalf of the accused, told The Hindu that cases were filed under Section 120 A of the IPC on charges of waging war or insurrection against the government, apart from slapping Section 326 on charges of causing injury using weapons. In addition, there were other general charges of hatching a criminal conspiracy by the demonstrators. The Kyatamaranahalli violence in April 2009 in which places of worship were vandalised, was traced to police action against two youths accused of eve-teasing in Udayagiri police station limits. Group clashes broke out and the house of a former Mayor was ransacked by the mob.
