: Justice D.H. Waghela would assume charge as the new Chief Justice of Orissa High Court on Thursday. Prior to his new assignment, Justice Waghela was officiating as the Chief Justice of Karnataka High Court. He was transferred here in April this year by a Presidential warrant of appointment.

According to High Court registry sources here, Justice Waghela would arrive in the city on Wednesday and the State Governor Dr S.C. Jamir would administer the oath of office to him on Thursday.

With the assumption of charge by Chief Justice Waghela, the strength of the High Court Bench here would complete its full sanctioned strength.

The Law Commission of India had in 2006 recommended 29 judges in Orissa High Court to clear the backlog of cases within five years but the State government has accorded sanction for only 22 judges here including the Chief Justice.
