Four militants killed by Army in J&K's Tangdhar after 16-hour gunbattle

Four militants were killed and a fifth unidentified body recovered by the Army in Tangdhar in Jammu and Kashmir`s Kupwara district during a sixteen-hour gunbattle.

Kupwara: Four militants were killed and a fifth unidentified body recovered by the Army in Tangdhar in Jammu and Kashmir`s Kupwara district during a sixteen-hour gun battle.

The unidentified body has been handed over to the police.

Four AK-47 rifles and one UBGL have also recovered from the site.

Deputy Inspector General of police, North Kashmir, Garib Dass, confirmed that the four had been killed in the clash.

"Day before yesterday, early morning, we noticed militant movement. The troops deployed there challenged the movement and the militants hid in the nearby forest and houses. The operation has been going on from then. The latest information is the firing has been stopped and complete search operation will be conducted," he said.

Dass also said that a civilian might have been killed in the cross firing between army and militants but it was yet to be confirmed.

The fighting erupted after the men were spotted approaching the base and then took shelter in two homes, said a police officer.
