Cash-for-vote case: TDP MLA in custody
Telangana Telugu Desam Party legislator A Revanth Reddy was on Monday lodged in the Chenchalguda jail for 14 days' judicial remand in the cash-for-vote bribery case. Revanth was on Sunday caught red-handed while making a part payment of Rs 50 lakh towards advance of Rs 5 crore he had offered to an Anglo-Indian nominated member, Elvis Stephenson at the latter’s residence. The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested him.

However, court allowed Revanth Reddy to exercise his voting right in the MLC election held on Monday. Soon after casting his vote, Reddy was taken to Chenchalguda jail. The court posted for Tuesday the hearing on his petition for bail. Meanwhile, the Income Tax department has already swung into action to enquire the sources of such huge money.

The IT sleuths asked Revanth to furnish the details of the money. Revanth, who approached Stephen through a Church friend, offered him Rs 50 lakh advance and Rs 4.5 crore cash payment for voting for the TDP in the polls to elect six MLCs. It was a well-laid trap that led to the fall of Revanth.

Whose money was it?
ACB sleuths are now digging deep into the episode to trace the money's origin. Revanth, though took the name of his party chief N Chandrababu Naidu many times during the conversation, told Stephen that he was financing the party MLC candidate. Apart from the IT sleuths, the ACB is also trying to find the roots where from the money had come to Revanth.
