Rallies, signature campaign, magic show and exhibitions marked World No Tobacco Day on Sunday.
Kidwai Memorial Institute of Oncology observed the day by organising a walkathon from Kidwai hospital to Lalbagh. Over 500 students from 10 colleges and several schools participated in the rally that was flagged off by directors of Kidwai hospital and NIMHANS — K.B. Linge Gowda and P. Satish Chandra respectively.
A magic show by Nagendra Prasad near the entrance of the hospital was a highlight of the programme.
KSRTC observed the day by organising a free carbon monoxide detection test for the department staff and an anti-tobacco signature campaign at ticket counters for passengers.
Anti-tobacco posters were displayed all around the Kempe Gowda Bus Station and documentaries on the effects of tobacco consumption were shown in the waiting area.
While Sri Shankara Cancer Hospital and Research Centre organised an art competition with the theme ‘Growing up without tobacco’ for children, Karnataka Cancer Society organised several awareness programmes.
