Chenyi to be brought tomorrow

Transit warrant obtained from the Tis Hazari court is valid till June 4, say police

The Chittoor task force police are bringing the nabbed Chinese red sanders smuggler Chenyi Fian from New Delhi to Chittoor on June 2. The police from Chittoor nabbed Fian at a hotel in Delhi on Friday night, and seized some artefacts made of red sanders wood, besides confiscating red sanders dump at Faridabad in the early hours of Saturday.

Chittoor Superintendent of Police Ghattamaneni Srinivas told The Hindu that the transit warrant for the Chinese national obtained from the Tis Hazari district court in New Delhi is valid till June 4. The official said 10 tonnes of red sanders logs seized from a godown at Faridabad based on information given by Fian on Saturday had been loaded into a truck on Sunday, and the vehicle would leave for Chittoor immediately after completing the legal formalities. “Our team is continuing searches for a couple of small dumps of red sanders in and around Delhi, but the seizures are getting delayed in view of difficulty in identifying the locations,” the SP said.

Referring to some unconfirmed reports that the Chittoor police had already brought Fian to Chittoor on Saturday night from Delhi by flight and that interrogation was going on at an unknown location, Additional Superintendent of Police (Red Sanders Operations) V. Ratna termed them as ‘utterly false’.

She said Fian was kept at a local police station in New Delhi, and he would be brought to Chittoor in a couple of days for production before the local court here. “We can proceed with our further interrogation of Fian, only after getting police custody of him here,” she said.
