The Delhi BJP on Saturday held a massive demonstration outside the residence of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, accusing the government of invading the privacy and “independence”of citizens by purchasing “snooping” equipment for its Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB).
Party leaders claimed a cabinet note was circulated on Friday, which stated that the government proposed to spend Rs 35 crore on purchasing monitoring and surveillance equipment. The government had denied circulating any such note. Media advisor Nagender Sharma, tweeted on Friday, “There is no proposal by the Delhi government to procure anything called as snooping equipment and no such cabinet note has been circulated.”
Around 100 protesters led by Delhi BJP chief Satish Upadhyay and senior leaders burnt an effigy of Kejriwal and raised slogans against the government.

Police had to use water cannon to disperse the protesters as they tried to climb the barricades near the CM’s residence.
Joint Commissioner of Police (Central) S K Gautam said mild force and water cannons were used to disperse the protesters.
Upadhyay said, “This government is running a snooping exercise. Who authorised them to snoop on citizens and tap their phones? This shows Kejriwal’s non-democratic mindset. It also shows that his approach is anarchist and his perception is that the citizens of Delhi are corrupt.”
