A 25-foot tall memorial is being constructed on a war footing to commemorate Telangana martyrs, at an estimated cost of Rs. 13 lakh, on the Pavilion Grounds premises in the heart of the town.
The memorial is slated to be unveiled on June 2 on the occasion of the first anniversary of Telangana formation day. Work on the memorial has reached its final stage.
The memorial is being built using sandstone brought from Bengaluru and black granite in an impressive design in honour of martyrs who laid down their lives for the cause of a separate Telangana, sources added.
A 10 ft x 10 ft granite base platform has already been constructed for the purpose. Finishing touches are being given to the granite platform by fixing interlocking tiles of 6 ft width on it.
A carpet of grass will be laid all around the memorial structure, sources said.
A team of officials led by Khammam Municipal Commissioner Venugopal Reddy is closely monitoring the memorial construction works.
