Less than a day after shots rang out in the west Edmonton neighbourhood of Lewis Estates late Thursday night.

Police said they responded to reports of gunfire, near 213 Street and 88A Avenue, around 11:30 p.m.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene – neighbours and police had tried to resuscitate the man at the scene.

A number of residents told CTV News they heard a vehicle speeding from the scene.

Sources identified the deceased to CTV News as Jason Costouros, 32.

The Edmonton Medical Examiner said Friday that Costouros’ death had been confirmed as a homicide – and confirmed he had died from a gunshot wound.

He had spent some time behind bars in the past, after being found guilty of accessory to murder, in the death of David Wong more than seven years ago.

Police have not released a description of any suspects or suspect vehicles they may be looking for.

EPS said detectives were still interviewing witnesses regarding Costouros’ death, and are asking anyone with additional information to call the Edmonton Police Service non-emergency line at 780-423-4567 or #377 on a mobile phone.

Anonymous tips can be submitted to Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

This is Edmonton’s eighth homicide of 2015.
