Prime Minister Narendra Modi accepted an invitation of Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal to participate in the celebrations to commemorate 350th foundation day of Anandpur Sahib on June 19.
In his meeting with Modi and subsequent meeting with Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh today, Badal raised several issues, including release of Sikh detainees who have completed their jail terms.
He also met Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and extended invitation to him too.
Officials said Modi was prompt in accepting the invitation. Rajnath and Jaitley assured Badal of their participation in the function.
Badal said his purpose of calling on Modi was to invite him to the function. He said he apprised Modi of the historical significance of the religious city of Anandpur Sahib which was founded by the Guru Teg Bahadur in 1665.
Badal urged Modi for his intervention for restoration of the practice of appointment of president of Takht Shri Hazoor Sahib through election as had been enjoined by the Nanded Sikh Gurudwara Sachkhnad Shri Hazoor Abchalnagar Sahib Act, 1956. The Act mandated the constitution of the board to manage the affairs of the Takht in Maharashtra.
