B-Town stars favourite judges and hosts on reality tv shows
As Sonakshi Sinha makes her television debut as a judge on the reality show Indian Idol Junior, along with Vishal Dadlani, Salim Merchant and singer Shalmali Kholgade, the actress enters the club of actors who ventured to judge/host a show on the small screen. This trend was pioneered by the legendary Amitabh Bachchan when he hosted 'Kaun Banega Crorepati' (2001), the desi version of the international show, 'Who Wants To Be A Millionnaire'? Here’s looking at some of the Bollywood biggies who held fort on the small screen since then...

Salman Khan ventured into TV as the host of 'Dus Ka Dum' (2008), the Indian version of the international show, 'Power Of 10'. After two seasons, things didn’t materialise between the superstar and the channel and he went on to host 'Bigg Boss' for another channel. With 'Bigg Boss 8', he has completed five seasons of the reality show.
When Amitabh Bachchan took ill during the second season of 'KBC', Shah Rukh Khan was signed on host the quiz show. He hosted it for only the third season (2007) as Big B returned in the fourth season (2010) and continued hosting it till the eight season that wrapped up last October. Meanwhile, SRK hosted 'Kya Aap Paanchvi Paas Se Tez Hain?' (2008), 'Zor Ka Jhatka — Total WipeOut' (2011) and the recent 'India Poochhega Sabse Shaana Kaun'. Big B also hosted the third season of Bigg Boss (2009), before returning to his quiz master’s role in the fourth season of 'KBC' (2010). Following in his superstar father’s footsteps, Abhishek too ventured into TV, as he hosted the only season of the show, 'National Bingo Night' (2010).

In keeping with his image as an action star, Akshay Kumar forayed into TV by hosting 'Khatron Ke Khiladi' (2008), the Indian adaptation of the international show, 'Fear Factor'. It was one of the big shows for the launch of the new general entertainment channel. After a year’s break, when Priyanka Chopra hosted the third season (2010), Akki returned to host the fourth season (2011), his last for the show. Last year, he also hosted 'Dare 2 Dance', a reality show that blended dance and daring stunts.

For a song and dance reality show that saw families as participants, real life couple Ajay Devgn and Kajol turned the judging jodi. The couple hosted the only season of 'Rock-N-Roll Family' (2008) that saw three generations of families participating in it.
In keeping with his dance skills, Hrithik Roshan turned judge for the dance reality show, 'Just Dance' (2011). The superstar was joined by Farah Khan and Vaibhavi Merchant. Another star who had his own show was Farhan Akhtar. The multi-talented Farhan hosted the entertainment talk show 'Oye It’s Friday' (2008) that featured a new celebrity every week.
Unlike his B-Town colleagues, Aamir Khan forayed into TV with an issue-based show. 'Satyamev Jayate' (2012), which he also produced, features the superstar host turning sensitive social issues into talking points and trying to find solutions to common people’s problems.
