A scene from The Spectacular Jihad of Taz Rahim

Upcoming Indo-American film The Spectacular Jihad of Taz Rahim, starring Monica Dogra and Rahsaan Islam, has an interesting real-life inspiration. The film is based on real-life incidents that followed the controversial 9/11 attacks which shook the world, and how the police department of New York began to hire Muslim informants for in-depth research on terrorist movements.

This interesting subjected caught the fancy of debutant director Raghav Murali who chose to portray this technique of the police to nail down sensitive information. Raghav Murali said, "When we first began to work on the film, our research was really shocking yet intriguing. As we delved further, we learned so much of this practice of hiring Muslim informants, especially given the fact that so much was said on discrimination against people of Muslim origin after these attacks. The police would hire such men and use them to get better information. The movie tries to capture this reality with a touch of humour.”
