Mysuru City Corporation will soon appoint two junior health officers
MYSURU: The appointment to two junior health officers to Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) may cushion load at the health department of the civic body.
The government has created two new posts in MCC to facilitate smooth functioning of sanitation works in the city. The new officers are expected to take charge later this week.
MCC health officer H Ramachandra told TOI that the government has sanctioned two junior health officers to MCC "and this will help us in our work".

MCC has been functioning without adequate staff in the health department for years. Besides affecting work at the department, the staff crunch had burdened the officers in charge of the health wing. With the monitoring of work at the grass root being "ineffective", there were frequent complaints to MCC helplines about non-clearance of garbage and cleaning works.
At present, the civic body has one health officer and eight health inspectors as against 53 sanctioned posts.
MCC had different plan
MCC had planned to hire children of pourakarmikas who have completed a course in urban sanitation to fill vacant posts of health inspectors. But a section of aspirants knocked on the doors of the court opposing the move, terming it "unconstitutional".
An officer said that they can fill the posts only after the court's decision on the petition.
Health officer Ramachandra said that appointment of new junior health officers will alleviate burden on him. "With these appointments, MCC now can focus more on educating public about cleanliness. Collection of garbage from doorsteps will also be more effective."
