Not submitting thesis on time to cost Calicut University teachers Rs10 crore
KOZHIKODE: Calicut University has written to director of collegiate education asking to recover nearly Rs 10 crore paid as fellowship and salary to 102 teachers who have not submitted their PhD theses under the UGC-funded faculty improvement programme.
The varsity has suggested recovering the money either from salary or pension of the teachers.
Dr.
Sailas Benjamin, director, directorate of research, said the teachers have signed a bond which stipulates remitting twice the amount the government would spend on salary during the FIP along with interest if they failed to submit thesis within four years, including a one year grace period.
Meanwhile the state local fund audit department has written to the state accountant general to conduct an inquiry into the FIP at all universities in the state.
In another step, the varsity will cancel PhD registrations of research scholars—a source put the number at 77--who have failed to submit their theses even after seven years of joining the programme and may take action against their guides.
