Woman dies after tree branch falls on her

Parts of the district experienced sharp showers on Wednesday night. Accompanied by strong winds, the showers disrupted normal life for about five hours. Govindammal, a 75-year-old woman of Kovilur village near Tirumanur, was killed on the spot when the branch of a tamarind tree fell on her.

For the last 24 hours that ended at 8.30 a.m. on Thursday, Sendurai registered 41 mm of rain, Ariyalur 36, Jayamkondam 30 and Tirumanur 14 mm. In Perambalur district, Perambalur registered a maximum of 58 mm of rain, Thazhuthali 29, Veppanthattai 17.4, and Chettikulam 13 mm of rainfall.
