Verizon Boosts Network Performance in Select Markets

Network performance of the wireless carriers in Los Angeles in 1H15

Verizon’s (VZ) network performance remains the best in the key Los Angeles market, according to RootMetrics’ 1H15 results for the metro market. Released on May 19, 2015, RootMetrics’ ranking gave Verizon the top spot in terms of overall network performance in the market. In each of the eight times that RootMetrics has conducted these tests in the LA market, Verizon has won this metric.

Based on these RootMetrics results for the LA market, the three other wireless carriers—AT&T (T), Sprint (S), and T-Mobile (TMUS)—maintained their 2H14 rankings in 1H15.

AT&T shared the second spot in the overall performance metric with T-Mobile in 1H15. Sprint was consistent, but last.

Network reliability and speed in the LA market

The RootMetrics results show that the four largest US wireless carriers each maintained their 2H14 spots in terms of network reliability and speed metrics in the LA market in 1H15.

Verizon held the top spot in both of these metrics as well. In fact, it shared top spot in the network reliability metric with T-Mobile and AT&T. In terms of network speed, T-Mobile and AT&T stayed in second and third place, respectively, in 1H15. Sprint retained its last spot in both of these performance metrics in the LA market.

Instead of directly investing in a telecom stock, you can choose to take diversified exposure to Verizon by investing in the Technology Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLK). The ETF held ~5.1% in the telecom company on April 30, 2015.
