"Rahul Gandhi's utterances about RSS exposes his frustration and ignorance about RSS," said Manmohan Vaidya, the all-India communications head of the organization.
He claimed "RSS is experiencing growing admiration support and participation from society, particularly youth."
Union Minister M Venkaiah Naidu said "there is nothing to learn from him (Rahul) and he should first learn himself. Making such cheap comments on this government would not be appropriate."
BJP national spokesperson Nalin Kohli said "Rahul Gandhi presents himself as a student of politics , must be taking lessons, so he feels everyone is taking lessons from each other."
"I think Rahul Gandhi is only pandering to the media and coming up with slogans to keep himself relevant," he added.
Stepping up his offensive, Rahul hit out at BJP's ideological mentor RSS saying its belief was "murdering" individuality and that thought process is now running the country in which only one man knows everything from farmers to clothes.
"You see the shakhas of RSS. There is a straight queue in shakhas. If any one makes a noise there, he will be hit with a baton. Have you talked to any RSS and BJP leader? Discipline is just an excuse for them to murder individuality. And this is the thought process which is running the country," he said.
On Rahul demanding a stop on RSS ideology, BJP general secretary Ram Madhav said the Sangh grew "despite the hatred and attempts to stop it by his four generations."
"Great grandpa tried it; grandma tried; papa too. Four generations of futile hatred. RSS grew. Cong?," he tweeted.
Another Union Minister Kiren Rijiju said "dynastic politics and democracy do not gel very well. BJP is the most democratic party ever in India and everybody has the right and everybody has space in BJP."
He said while there is a responsibility for everybody in BJP, Congress and its cadres know that there is nothing beyond the Gandhi family in the party and do not understand anybody.
