Soldier steps on landmine near LoC, loses foot

An Indian soldier was critically injured in a landmine blast near the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir`s Jammu district on Thursday, police said.

Jammu: An Indian soldier was critically injured when he accidentally stepped on a landmine near the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir's Jammu district on Thursday and had to have a foot amputated, officials said.

"Anup Kumar, a jawan of 6 Madras Regiment, was critically injured in the blast at Khour near the LoC in Akhnoor sector of Jammu on Thursday afternoon," a senior police officer told a news agency here.

The injured soldier was taken to hospital, where his foot was amputated, defence officials said. 

The area was cordoned off to trace any other explosive device there but defence officials said the mine could have "drifted" from its original place.
