1 killed, 49 injured as bus overturns in Tapi village

One person was killed and 49 others were injured when a bus overturned near Mirkot village on national highway (NH) 6 in Tapi district on Wednesday.The injured were taken to Songadh and Vyara hospitals for first aid.

SURAT: One person was killed and 49 others were injured when a bus overturned near Mirkot village on national highway (NH) 6 in Tapi district on Wednesday. The injured were taken to Songadh and Vyara hospitals for first aid.
The deceased has been identified as Lakshman Manga Patil, 45, of Pandesara in Surat. More than 50 passengers were travelling in the private bus.
Following the accident, the injured were shifted to hospitals in 108 ambulance service.
The highway witnessed a traffic jam due to the accident and relief work. The highway is under expansion from four-lane to six-lane.
"The injured are out of danger. The driver lost control over the steering wheel and the bus overturned on left side of the highway," said police sub-inspector A P Bhathwar of Uchhal police station.
The bus overturned near Mirkot village between Songadh to Navapur. The bus was being plied by Shree Hari Travels of Limbayat in Surat. It was a daily service to Shirpur in Maharashtra from Surat.
Sources said that most of the travellers were going to a marriage function in Shirpur. Police have booked the driver for the accident.
