Dunne looking for new club after QPR clear-out
QPR's Richard Dunne has ruled out a move to the League of Ireland next year
QPR have released Richard Dunne after failing to reach agreement on a new deal following brief contract talks.
Dunne had expressed an interest in staying with the relegated club but the Londoners are cutting wage costs and with no prospect of middle ground, the veteran becomes a free agent.
He is now on the lookout for a fresh option after a two-year stint at QPR, with a switch to a Championship rival the most likely development.
The 35-year-old was on the sidelines for a crunch part of the campaign as Chris Ramsey failed to keep the big spenders in the top flight.
Irish goalkeeper Brian Murphy is also on the way out of Loftus Road after four years on the fringes and just six appearances.
High earners Joey Barton, Shaun Wright Phillips, Rio Ferdinand and Bobby Zamora will also be wearing different colours next term.
Elsewhere, Dunne's old pal Shay Given is planning to return to training today ahead of Aston Villa's FA Cup final with Arsenal. Given's participation was placed in doubt by a groin injury sustained in training last weekend.
Meanwhile, ahead of their FAI Cup meeting in Inchicore tomorrow, Dublin rivals St Patrick's Athletic and Shamrock Rovers learned they have another knockout date on the horizon after they were paired in the semi-finals of the EA Sports Cup.
They will clash in Tallaght, with the match provisionally pencilled in for Monday, August 3. Holders Dundalk, who are in control at the top of the Premier Division table, will travel to take on Galway United in the other semi.
