Spotlight on Clint Dempsey: The U.S. captain is tied for second in Major League Soccer in goals (seven) and tied for third in assists (five) entering the second meeting between these teams. Dempsey has four goals and two assists in his past four games against Colorado. However, Dempsey was held without a goal or an assist Saturday for the first time in a match he’s played this season. He had produced at least a goal or an assist in his past 10 matches dating to 2014, one shy of the all-time MLS record.

NOTEBOOK

Rapids: Colorado (2-2-7) has never won in Seattle in eight tries, producing only a single 1-1 draw. However, with the recent additions of strikers Luis Solignac and Kevin Doyle, and the 1-0 victory over the Vancouver Whitecaps on Saturday, coach Pablo Mastroeni said the Rapids have the momentum to earn a result. The match will be played on the artificial turf of CenturyLink Field, a surface quite foreign to Doyle. The Republic of Ireland international said he played on turf once previously — in Russia. “It’s the same for everyone, I’ll be fine,” Doyle said. “I have no niggling injuries I’ll need to worry about on it, so I’ll have no problems.”

Sounders: Seattle (6-3-2) enters the match second in the Western Conference, coming off a scoreless draw at home against Sporting Kansas City. Nigerian striker Obafemi Martins returned to training this week after recovering from a tibial contusion. Gonzalo Pineda, however, is listed as “questionable” with an ankle injury.

Injuries: Marcelo Sarvas (knee), Marlon Hairston (hamstring) and Nick LaBrocca (concussion) are all out for the Rapids.
