Nursing student found unconscious, drug OD suspected
LUDHIANA: A nursing student was found unconscious in a washroom at Mother and Child Hospital, the nursing wing of the civil hospital, here on Wednesday.
It is suspected that the student, who is an intern at the civil hospital and was off work on Wednesday, fell unconscious because of a drug overdose as injections were found from the same washroom and there were suspected injection marks on his arms.

The student, whose name has been withheld, is said to be in his 20s and is a student of a nursing college in Dhariwal. He was rushed to the emergency of the civil hospital and later referred to Christian Medical College and Hospital.
Senior medical officer Dr Parvinder Pal Sidhu said the incident was reported in the morning. "He is a nursing student, but today he was not on duty. He was not wearing the college uniform. Later, seeing his serious condition, we shifted him to CMCH. We have informed the police regarding this," Sidhu said.
As there is a staff shortage at the civil hospital and its nursing wing, students from nursing colleges are roped in as interns. The trend has caught up after it was recommended by senior officials of state health department and health minister Surjit Kumar Jiyani. No police official could be contacted for comment.
Police had reached CMCM to probe the matter. However, its could not be ascertained whether a case has been filed or not.
