Kochi: “Students must develop their talents fully and not just concentrate on studies,” says M. Gayatri, the topper in this year’s CBSE class XII exam. “Our other faculties too are important and we should tap them also. We should become an inspiration for others in all fields. I used to spend two-three hours a week for such hobbies,” says Gayatri who is into music and painting.
She last visited Kerala six years back but has fond memories of the state and its people. “Kerala is a clean and calm state and its people are very knowledgeable. Even my grandmother Ananthalakshmi, who stayed at her ‘agraharam’ at Karamana in Thiruvananthapuram, knew things like bio-degradable and degradable waste,” she recalls.
Gayatri still wants to come back to the lush green state, but is not able to do so as her grandmother has shifted to Chennai. “I had been to places like Kovalam beach and Guruvayur temple,” the New Greenfield School student of Saket, South Delhi, told DC over phone.
Delhi as a metro offers a lot of facilities for education though Kerala is not far behind, she points out. “I haven’t so far gone for coaching, but for the CA course entrance test I will go for coaching since the professional entrances need such coaching,” says Gayatri who is planning to do BCom through correspondence course while giving priority for CA.
She plans to get a job after passing CA rather than practising on her own to avoid the risks involved. Gayatri advises the younger aspirants for the top slot in the CBSE class XII exams to finish the studies daily in the school itself and not to delay preparation. “This helps you enjoy your life as well,” she says.
Gayatri used to help her peers in studies and gained much for herself due to that. “It helped me to improve my understanding of the subject,” she says.
