Arjun now waits to cross IIT hurdle

Arjun said that he hoped to pursue computer science from IIT

Thiruvananthapuram: Arjun B emerged second in the country in CBSE std. XII scoring 495 marks and sharing the rank with Mythili Mishra of Amity International School in Noida, Uttar Pradesh, and Saurabh Bhambri of KRM World School in Greater Kailash, New Delhi.

He is also someone who got the top score in the engineering entrance examinations, scoring 911 out of 1000 marks. However, whether he would be the first rank holder will be known only after the engineering rank list is published. This is because the rank list for Engineering Courses is prepared based on the total marks obtained out of an Index mark of 600 after normalisation by giving equal weightage for the marks of the qualifying examinations and entrance examinations. For this, the mean and standard deviation of the scores from the CBSE, ICSE, the Kerala Higher Secondary and the Kerala Vocational Higher Secondary examinations are calculated.

Arjun, is the younger son of former Navy commander Balgovind Kunjuraman and Sujatha. Mr Kunjuraman is working as the General Manager (Business Development) of the Essar group in Abu Dhabi. One of the advantages of being the son of a defence officer was that he could pursue his education in various states across the country. While he did tenth standard at the Kendriya Vidyalaya, IIT Campus, Mumbai, he completed his plus two from the Kendriya Vidyalaya,Pattom, here.

His mother Sujatha, is a trained civil engineer. His only brother Goutham has just passed Electrical engineering from SRM University in Tamil Nadu. Arjun is staying with his mother in Kowdiar Gardens in the city.

Arjun, who is waiting for the results of various entrance examinations, had just returned from writing entrance examinations for admissions to BITS, Pilani when Deccan Chronicle telephoned him. “It is true that I expected over 95 to 96 percent marks in the plus two examinations. However, I never thought that I would be ranked all-India second rank in the examinations,” said Arjun.

Arjun said that he hoped to pursue computer science from IIT. The results of the IIT examinations are only expected in June. “I have to wait and see. However, I am yet to decide on the future of my career,” Arjun said.

His mother’s sister Karthika was a prominent actor of Malayalam films of yesteryears. His grandfather Captain PKR Nair, a retired army officer, is Ex Servicemen Corporation Chairman and leader of Ex-Service Congress affiliated to the Congress party.
