: A total of 427 candidates in Yadgir district and 408 in Kalaburagi district were elected unopposed to their respective gram panchayats at the end of the withdrawal of nomination papers on Monday evening.
According to the details available with the election office in Kalaburagi and Yadgir districts on Tuesday, a total number of 10,319 candidates were in the fray for 3,781 seats in 243 gram panchayats which would go for elections in Kalaburgi district on June 2 and 4,417 candidates were in fray in 1,864 seats.
Boycott
While in 51 seats no candidate filed nomination papers for various reasons in Yadgir district, in 25 seats no nominations were filed in Kalaburagi district.
The highest number of candidates who were elected unopposed was in Chitapur where 94 candidates were elected unopposed out of the total 696 seats in Kalaburagi district.
Similarly in Jewargi taluk, of the total 650 seats, 80 candidates were elected unopposed.
Elected
As many as 57 candidates were elected unopposed out of the total 658 seats in Aland, followed by 56 candidates getting elected unopposed out of the total 727 seats in Kalaburgi, 44 candidates elected unopposed out of the total 498 seats in Afsalpur, 41 candidates getting elected unopposed out of the total 525 seats in Chincholi and 36 candidates elected unopposed out of the total 460 seats in Sedam taluk in Kalaburagi district.
In Yadgir district, 167 candidates were elected unopposed in Yadgir taluk, 117 in Shahapur and 143 in Surpur.
