Inspector held on graft charge

An Inspector of Police attached to the Sivakasi Town police station was arrested and remanded on charge of demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs. 35,000 from the manager of a recreation club at Sivakasi on Wednesday.

Ramachandran, Inspector of Law and Order, had allegedly demanded the bribe money from P. Ayyappan, who was managing the recreation club being run at Ayyappan Colony, for not booking cases for violation of conditions.

Based on a complaint from Mr.Ayyappan, the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption wing Deputy Superintendent of Police, R. Venkateswaran, arrested the inspector at his house at Periyakulam colony.

Ramachandran was sent to judicial custody after being produced in a court.
