The Odisha government on Wednesday confirmed death of 11 persons till now due to sunstroke this summer.
Office of Special Relief Commissioner said after detail investigation, seven sunstroke deaths were confirmed on Wednesday – a sudden rise from four till Tuesday.
As many as 81 deaths had reportedly occurred due to heat stroke. But the State government ruled out sunstroke as reason in 10 cases while enquiry with regards to 60 deaths was being conducted. Two sunstroke deaths each were reported from Khurda and Rayagada districts.
Intense heat wave swept across western Odisha district on Wednesday with the maximum temperature recorded above 40 degree Celsius in most places. Titlagarh remained the hottest place with 47 degree C, followed by Bhawanipatna, district headquarter town of Kalahandi, with 46 degree Celsius.
Major places where soaring temperature continued to affect normal life include Bolangir (45 degree), Soneput (44.8 degree), Sambalpur (44 degree) and Hirakud (43.5). Temperature remained below 40 degree C at most places in the coastal region.
