Mumbai Divisional Board of the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) has recorded the second lowest pass percentage as compared to other eight divisions in the state, even as its overall pass percentage of Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) showed a rise by 9.81 percent. The state recorded an overall pass percentage of 90.03 per cent, an increase of 10.08 per cent from last year.

MSBSHE on Wednesday declared the HSC results online. The results for all nine divisions — Pune, Nagpur, Aurangabad, Mumbai, Kolhapur, Amravati, Nashik and Latur — were announced simultaneously.

The Konkan division topped the list of overall pass percentage with 95.68 % followed by Amravati (92.50 %), Kolhapur (92.13 %), Nagpur (92.11 %), Pune (91.96 %), Latur(91.93%), Aurangabad (91.77 %). Nashik recorded the lowest pass percentage with 88.13%. The second lowest pass percentage was recorded in Mumbai division with 90.11% .

Out of the total 12,37,249 who appeared for the HSC exam, across the state, 11,29,073 were declared passed. In Mumbai division, 2,57,846 passed the exam out of 2,86,130 students who had appeared for the exam.

“The result this year is not too bad. Overall, Mumbai has shown a rise in pass percentage by 9.8 per cent. It won’t be appropriate to compare the pass percentage of Mumbai with divisions like Konkan or Amravati as the number of candidates  there is too less in comparison to that of Mumbai’s. Mumbai has the highest number of candidates who appeared for the HSC exam than other divisional boards. In comparison to Pune, the pass percentage is hardly 2 per cent low. Besides, Mumbai division has the highest number of students scoring distinction and first class. The results are good but there is scope for further improvement,” said Laxmikant Pande, Chairman of Mumbai Divisional board.

Festive offer

Authorities of Mumbai divisional board also argued that Mumbai had the highest number of students who were repeating this yea. According to officials, this too is one of the factors due to which the pass percentage of Mumbai division is lower than other divisions. Though the results were declared online on Wednesday, students will get hard copies of their mark-sheets only on June 4 from their respective colleges.

Konkan Division tops again Konkan divisional board has topped the state in overall pass percentage for the fourth consecutive year. The Konkan division, that includes Sindhudurg and Ratnagiri, has registered a pass percentage of 95.68 this year as compared to last year’s 94.85 %. The division also has only eight cases of copy and malpractice throughout the exam.
